Experts uncover dinosaur fossils in Hong Kong, challenging geological beliefs.

Hong Kong recently made an astonishing discovery – dinosaur fossils, challenging the belief that finding ancient remains in a small city with volcanic history and rapidly changing geology is difficult. Experts attribute the lack of previous discoveries to geological characteristics and limited palaeontological efforts, but anticipate more findings in the city’s northeastern region.

The government announced the fossils’ discovery on Port Island in the Hong Kong Unesco Global Geopark, belonging to a dinosaur species from the Cretaceous period. Michael Pittman, from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, expressed optimism about finding more fossils on Port Island and nearby islands, potentially in areas like Lai Chi Chong and Sai Kung.
