England to Ban Single-Use Vapes by June 2025
England will prohibit the sale of single-use vapes starting June next year, as announced by the UK government. The move aims to address environmental concerns and the rising usage of vapes among children. Vaping has become popular in Britain, with nearly one in 10 individuals using these products. While some advocate for vapes as a smoking cessation aid, health authorities worry about their appeal to children due to colorful designs and fruity flavors.
A survey by health charity ASH revealed that about one in five children aged 11-17 have experimented with vaping. Selling nicotine-containing e-cigarettes to individuals under 18 is already illegal. The government also plans to implement a comprehensive smoking bill to safeguard young people from nicotine addiction.
“Banning disposable vapes will protect the environment and reduce their attractiveness to children,” said Minister Andrew Gwynne. The government highlighted that around five million single-use vapes are disposed of weekly, posing environmental and safety risks. Health charity ASH emphasizes the need for balanced regulations to preserve the value of vapes as a tool for smokers.
