Congress accuses Mahayuti govt of hindering FRA benefits for Adivasis in Maharashtra 2024 polls

The Congress party passed the Revolutionary Forest Rights Act (FRA) in 2006, granting legal rights to tribal and other forest-dwelling communities to manage their own forests and benefit economically from the produce. This law provided both individual and community rights to the forests.

The act aimed to empower marginalized communities and protect their traditional land rights. It was a step towards recognizing the rights of forest-dwelling communities and ensuring their sustainable livelihoods. By giving legal recognition to the rights of these communities, the FRA sought to address historical injustices and promote inclusive development.

Over the years, the implementation of the FRA has faced challenges and constraints, leading to gaps in its enforcement. Efforts are needed to address these issues and ensure the effective implementation of the act to safeguard the rights and livelihoods of forest-dwelling communities.

Published on 24th October 2024 at 10:26 IST, the tweet shared by Jairam Ramesh highlighted the significance of the FRA in empowering marginalized communities and protecting their rights.
