Air travel on the rise in Brazil
Brazil’s Ministry of Ports and Airports reported a significant increase in air travel across the country. In September, nearly 10 million travelers were recorded, marking a 5.7% rise from the previous year. Domestic flights saw a 4.3% increase, with over 7.9 million passengers, while international travel surpassed 2 million for the first time.
The boost in tourism is attributed to a strategic plan by the Federal Government, fostering more flights to underserved destinations. Minister Silvio Costa Filho aims to enhance connectivity with countries like Portugal and Spain. This effort has already led to increased flights to Aruba and Bogota.
Despite challenges like the recent floods in Porto Alegre, Brazilian airports are thriving. São Paulo’s Guarulhos Airport remains the busiest, transporting over 1.2 million passengers. Rio de Janeiro’s Galeao Airport follows closely with a 28.7% increase from the previous year.
