3 arrested in Sri Lanka after US attack warning

In a recent announcement, Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath disclosed the arrest of individuals linked to a suspected plan to target a Jewish community center on the island. Following this revelation, Sri Lanka police have apprehended three suspects in connection with alleged threats to Israeli travelers visiting the country.

With heightened security measures in place and a warning issued by the United States regarding a possible attack on a popular tourist destination, Sri Lankan authorities are taking swift action. Minister Herath confirmed the detention of three Sri Lankans for questioning but refrained from sharing further details to protect the ongoing investigation.

The potential threat specifically targets locations where Israeli nationals gather for religious purposes. Consequently, Israel’s national security council has advised its citizens to avoid certain tourist areas in southern Sri Lanka. Similarly, the US embassy and Germany’s Foreign Ministry have issued alerts cautioning travelers to steer clear of specific regions due to possible security risks.

As authorities remain on high alert and security measures are bolstered, efforts are underway to safeguard tourists, especially during the busy year-end season in Sri Lanka.
