Gang Violence Escalates in Haiti
The United Nation’s Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) has issued a warning about the escalating gang violence in Haiti. Gangs have intensified their control, threatening government officials and aiming to expand their influence in more areas. Over 5 million people are facing hunger, with thousands on the brink of famine.
Local and multinational law enforcement agencies struggle to combat the violence, leading to widespread fear among citizens. Haiti’s prime minister, Garry Conille, has deployed security forces to protect strategic areas from gang takeover. However, threats to government officials continue to rise.
The rebel gang, Viv Ansanm, formed a coalition to challenge the government and UN-backed missions. As clashes between gangs decreased, the security situation in Haiti remains precarious, with journalists receiving death threats from the controlling gangs.
