North Korean Troops in Russia for Training: White House
According to the White House, around 3,000 North Korean soldiers are currently in eastern Russia undergoing training, possibly in preparation for deployment to join Russia’s war against Ukraine. The soldiers were transported by boat from North Korea to Russia in October and are now training at three Russian military facilities.
The US has expressed concerns about the possibility of these soldiers entering combat in Ukraine alongside Russian forces. National Security Council John Kirby stated that North Korean troops may become legitimate military targets if they participate in the conflict.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also mentioned that North Korea is preparing two brigades to support Russia in the war. This development poses a challenge, but Zelenskyy assured that they are prepared to respond to it.
The White House is closely monitoring the situation and consulting with allies and partners on the potential implications of North Korean involvement in the conflict.
