Welcome to Volkswagen GenFarm Project: Revolutionizing Agriculture in Africa with Electric Tractors
Volkswagen Group Africa has launched an innovative farming project in Gashora, Rwanda, utilizing electric tractors to modernize agriculture in rural Africa. The GenFarm Project, a collaboration between VW Group Africa, the Rwandan government, and partners in Europe, aims to provide clean energy and mobility solutions for local farmers.
The project features an upcoming “Empowerment Hub” equipped with solar panels and energy storage, offering services such as e-tractor rentals and e-scooter transportation. VW Group Innovation Centre Europe is supplying the cutting-edge equipment, while VW Mobility Solutions Rwanda will manage operations at the facility.
Dr. Nikolai Ardey highlighted the benefits of the hub’s services, emphasizing sustainable farming practices and the innovative battery swap system. Supported by RicaICA and GIZ, the project targets farming cooperatives in the Bugesera district, contributing to Rwanda’s agricultural sector, a key pillar of the nation’s economy.
Join us on this journey as we shape the future of agriculture in Africa with Volkswagen GenFarm Project. Stay tuned for updates on the project’s progress and impact on local communities.
