Uncertain future for Fethullah Gülen’s movement

Fethullah Gülen, a Turkish preacher living in exile in the United States, passed away at 83, confirmed by messages of condolence on social media. Gülen played a significant role in Turkish politics through the Hizmet movement, leading to tensions with the ruling AKP and a failed coup in 2016. Post-coup, Hizmet members faced persecution, leading many to seek refuge abroad, especially in Germany. Despite this, Hizmet members continue lobbying efforts and maintaining community ties within the diaspora, advocating for their cause.

Refugee members abroad

Many Turkish nationals, including Hizmet members, sought asylum in Germany post-2016, with a strong presence and lobbying activities within the community. German authorities are often unaware of the movement’s true nature, allowing for continued political activities and clashes with dissenting voices like Can Dündar.
