Survey finds 60% of Germans against military aid to Israel

A recent poll in Germany has revealed that a majority of Germans are against the government’s decision to resume weapons supplies to Israel. According to the survey, 60% of respondents oppose providing military support to Israel as the Netanyahu government escalates attacks on Gaza and Lebanon, sparking fears of a regional war in the Middle East.

Only 31% of those surveyed believe Germany should send weapons to ensure Israel’s security, while 9% were undecided. The decision to resume arms supplies came after assurances from Tel Aviv that German military equipment would be used in compliance with international law.

This move follows a previous halt in weapons supplies after Nicaragua accused Germany of aiding “genocide” in Gaza, leading to a case being brought before the International Court of Justice.

While Germany has historically been a key ally of Israel, critics argue that its unwavering support for Prime Minister Netanyahu’s government is tarnishing its international reputation and causing further isolation on the global stage.

As Israel faces a genocide case at the ICJ over actions in Gaza, where thousands of Palestinians have been killed or injured, the debate over military support continues to ignite controversy in Germany.
