Ramaphosa criticizes UNSC at Brics meeting, DA questions his ties with Putin.

President Cyril Ramaphosa criticized the UN Security Council (UNSC) for failing to maintain international peace and security during the Brics summit in Kazan, Russia. He expressed concern over the UNSC’s inability to stop the escalation of the conflict between Israel and Palestine, despite the International Court of Justice’s call to prevent genocide in Gaza. Ramaphosa emphasized the need for reform within the UNSC, advocating for Africa to have a permanent seat with veto powers.

As South Africa prepares to submit evidence to the ICJ regarding the conflict, Ramaphosa urged Brics members to use their collective voice to push for geopolitical changes. He highlighted the importance of enhancing mutual trust and practical cooperation among Brics countries to address security challenges such as terrorism and cybercrime.

While working towards a more prosperous and equitable world, Ramaphosa also faced criticism from his government partners regarding his statements on Russia. Despite this, he remains committed to promoting economic partnerships and sustainable development within the Brics bloc.
