British PM Keir Starmer Meets Palestinians Affected by Gaza Conflict
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed his solidarity with Palestinians who have suffered loss in the Gaza conflict during a meeting at Downing Street. The emotional encounter marked the first large-scale interaction between a British leader and Palestinian representatives since Labour took office.
Alongside Deputy PM Angela Rayner, Starmer engaged in discussions about the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza and immediate access for aid. The Palestinian community members, including those with children harmed by Israeli actions, appealed for a “Child Evacuation Scheme” to provide critical medical care to injured youngsters from Gaza.
Additionally, the group advocated for a “Family Reunification Scheme” to reconnect separated Palestinian families and urged for increased aid flow into Gaza, denouncing Israel’s use of starvation as a weapon of war.
Starmer’s dialogue with the Palestinians came after his considerations about sanctions against Israeli officials who made disparaging remarks about Palestinians. In a parallel move, Foreign Secretary David Lammy enforced sanctions against entities involved in human rights abuses in the occupied West Bank.
