Oxfam and Development Finance International’s 2024 Commitment to Reducing Inequality Index placed Morocco 73rd out of 164 countries worldwide, a significant improvement from their 2022 ranking. Morocco, along with Malaysia and Paraguay, advanced by 30 positions in the index, showcasing significant progress in reducing inequality.
The index evaluates countries based on public service spending, taxes, and worker rights, with Morocco ranking 90th in public service spending, 21st in taxes, and 97th in worker rights. Norway topped the global ranking, while South Sudan, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe ranked lowest in reducing inequality.
The report emphasizes the importance of prioritizing spending on public services, particularly in middle- and low-income countries, and addressing labor market disparities through ratifying international labor standards. It also calls for reducing debt service burdens and increasing concessional financing flows to support economic reform and reduce inequality globally.
