The Corruption Scandal Unveiled: Government Official Sentenced to Six Years in Prison
In a shocking turn of events, a government official has been sentenced to six years in prison for corruption related to organizing pilgrimages for visually impaired individuals in Morocco. The scandal, as reported by Assabah newspaper, involved manipulation of the pilgrimage lists funded by the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs in coordination with the Alaouite Organization for the Protection of the Blind (OAPAM).
The accused, a coordinator at the government’s secretariat, allegedly replaced approved pilgrims with others in exchange for money, leading to visually impaired individuals being left out of their scheduled pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia. Despite completing all necessary procedures, they were denied boarding, leading to protests at the ministry.
An investigation revealed that this was not an isolated incident, as the official had been manipulating lists for at least four years. In addition to the prison sentence, he is required to pay fines to the Ministry of Habous, OAPAM, and the Treasury.
