KZN finance MEC Rodgers calls for lights, camera, action at Durban studio

KwaZulu-Natal finance MEC Francois Rodgers is determined to kickstart construction on a long-delayed Durban film studio. Proposed by filmmaker Anant Singh in 2003, the project has faced legal and bureaucratic hurdles. Singh recently met with Rodgers, who pledged to work with government leaders to resolve issues and ensure construction begins swiftly.

Despite facing challenges like bulk electricity supply, Rodgers is optimistic about overcoming them. President Cyril Ramaphosa had previously intervened in the matter, promising to address delays through a Presidential Working Group in the city.

The potential for a state-of-the-art film studio in Durban has generated significant interest, with hopes of boosting the local economy and creating job opportunities in the film industry. With the promise of support from government officials, there is renewed hope for the realization of this ambitious project.
