Group calls out NAEC Chief Ahmed for not stepping down post-tenure

A coalition of Civil Society Groups on Transparency and Accountability has raised concerns over the alleged refusal of Prof. Aminu Ahmed, Chairman/CEO of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission (NAEC), to step down despite the expiration of his tenure one month and three weeks ago.

The coalition, led by Comrade Igwe Ude-Umanta, highlighted that Prof. Ahmed’s tenure officially ended on September 3, 2024, and called for immediate action to address this issue in the nation’s interest. They expressed plans to send letters to authorities like the EFCC and ICPC regarding the earlier petition against Prof. Ahmed.

In addition, the coalition urged the DSS to retrieve the Commission’s properties and documents that Prof. Ahmed has reportedly withheld from the Acting Chairman. Emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability, they emphasized the need for swift action to prevent such matters from being overlooked.

Overall, the coalition stressed the significance of holding individuals accountable for misappropriating government property and highlighted the necessity of thorough investigations to ensure justice is served.
