Gombe CSOs urge passage of RMAFC amendment bill

The Gombe Network of Civil Society (GONET) is advocating for the quick passage of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) Amendment Bill, currently awaiting approval in the National Assembly. During a dialogue session themed “Towards Nigeria’s Effective Fiscal Management: Issues, Prospects, and Constraints,” GONET highlighted the importance of RMAFC in monitoring revenue accruals, allocation, and remuneration for public officeholders.

GONET identified financial constraints, outdated legal frameworks, and limited regulatory powers as hindrances to RMAFC’s effectiveness. The proposed amendment seeks to grant the Commission financial autonomy and modernize its operational frameworks to align with current economic realities. The CSOs are urging the National Assembly and Presidency to prioritize the passage of the Bill, emphasizing its potential to reform Nigeria’s fiscal management and governance.

The network also called upon governors to leverage their influence on federal legislators to support the Bill’s quick approval. They believe that the enactment of the Bill will enhance revenue generation, promote transparency, and align with the government’s commitment to accountable fiscal management. The GONET is optimistic that the Amendment Bill will empower RMAFC to fulfill its mandate effectively.
