This decision, attributed to French government directives, was defended by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot in parliament. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a balance between supporting Israel’s right to self-defense and advocating for peace in the region.
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz criticized the restrictions as “unacceptable” and “anti-democratic,” calling for French President Emmanuel Macron to reconsider. Barrot reiterated France’s support for Israel’s defense capabilities, noting the continued export of components for the “Iron Dome” system.
