Dáil to vote on final report on assisted dying from Oireachtas

The Dáil to Vote on Legalisation of Assisted Dying

The Dáil is set to vote on the final report of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Assisted Dying this evening. This follows months of hearings, where the committee recommended legalising assisted dying in restricted circumstances. While nine members backed the recommendation, three issued a dissenting report.

The motion to be voted on reads: “That Dáil Éireann shall take note of the Report of the Joint Committee on Assisted Dying.” Some deputies believe this vote will indicate the level of support for the majority report.

Tánaiste Micheál Martin has expressed reservations about the proposed legislation, while People Before Profit TD Gino Kenny, a committee member, supports full implementation of the report.

Although the vote tonight will not lead to immediate changes, it is a crucial step in addressing the controversial issue of assisted dying in Ireland. Stay tuned for updates on the outcome of the vote.
