A recent wave of coordinated hacking attacks has struck critical infrastructure and government websites in Cyprus, as reported by local Cyber officials. Multiple hacking groups targeted key entities such as the main government portal, electricity and telecommunications authorities, a major bank, an oil company, and two local airports.
These attacks primarily involved distributed denial of service (DDoS) assaults, rendering the websites temporarily inaccessible by flooding them with unwanted traffic. Hackers identified as part of “Lulzsic Black” claimed responsibility, citing Cyprus’ support for Israel as the motive behind their actions.
Warning signs emerged prior to the attacks, with various hacker groups signaling their intentions on forums like Telegram and the dark web. The hackers demanded a change in Cyprus’ stance towards Israel and humanitarian aid for Gaza to cease their operations.
The cybersecurity landscape in Cyprus remains tense, with ongoing threats and demands from hackers seeking to make a statement against the country’s foreign policy.
