China openly supports Russia in their conflict with Ukraine, with two Chinese companies confirmed to be producing drones used in attacks on Ukrainian cities. The U.S. has sanctioned Xiamen Limbach Aircraft Engine Co. and Redlepus Vector Industry Shenzhen Co. Ltd., key players in manufacturing the “Garpiya 3” drones crucial for Russia’s drone production.
The partnership between Redlepus and Kupol has resulted in the production of 2,000 Garpiya 3 drones this year, with plans to produce 2,500 annually. These drones, redesigned by Chinese engineers, use German-designed engines produced in China and have a range of 1,500-2,000 kilometers with a 55kg warhead.
China’s Role in Arms Trade
China retaliated against U.S. sanctions by sanctioning American companies supplying drones to Taiwan. Despite claiming neutrality, China’s actions indicate strong support for Russia. By supplying drone engines, China significantly boosts Russia’s drone production, impacting the global power dynamics and increasing civilian casualties in Ukraine.
