ISTANBUL: The BRICS economic group held restricted-format talks during day two of the summit in Kazan, Russia. Chaired by Russian President Vladimir Putin, the meeting included leaders from Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates, who recently joined the bloc. Brazil’s representation was at the foreign minister level due to President Lula da Silva’s absence. The agenda covered global and regional issues, focusing on politics, security, economics, finance, and cultural ties.
The talks also explored the potential expansion of BRICS through the inclusion of new ‘partner states.’ Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was set to attend the summit as a guest and meet Putin. The summit, hosting long-time members – Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa – along with newer additions like Egypt and Ethiopia, served as a platform for strategic discussions and cooperation.
