BRICS Summit Declaration: A Turning Point in International Politics
The BRICS bloc adopted a historic declaration during its recent Summit in Kazan, marking a significant shift in international relations. The 43-page Kazan Declaration, titled ‘Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security,’ outlined key points aimed at creating a more just and democratic world order, enhancing cooperation for global stability and promoting economic partnerships among member nations.
The declaration called for reforms to global financial institutions like Bretton Woods, denounced unilateral protectionist measures, and emphasized the need for a reformed United Nations Security Council to better represent modern realities.
“The BRICS countries are showcasing a collective approach to international negotiations without the need for hegemony or force,” said Anuradha Chenoy, a professor emerita at Jawaharlal Nehru University.
The declaration also highlighted commitments to economic cooperation, high-tech initiatives, and efforts to strengthen security. Paolo Raffone of the CIPI Foundation described BRICS as a counterbalance to Western-dominated world institutions, offering hope for a more inclusive and balanced global order.
