Blinken calls on Israel’s Herzog to resume aid to Gaza

During a meeting in Tel Aviv, Secretary of State Antony Blinken emphasized the importance of restoring sustained humanitarian aid to Gaza, according to the State Department. The discussion with Israeli President Isaac Herzog also focused on ending the war, securing the release of hostages, and achieving broader regional stability. Blinken reiterated the US’s commitment to Israel’s security and ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region.

Furthermore, Blinken’s visit to the Middle East coincided with Israel’s war on Gaza, with over 42,700 casualties reported by Gaza health authorities. His discussions with Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, also addressed the need to increase humanitarian aid flow into Gaza and ensure it reaches civilians. However, the Israeli government’s readout of the meeting emphasized discussions on the governance of Gaza post-war instead.

As Blinken’s 11th visit to the region in recent months, his presence signifies a focus on diplomatic solutions and potential cease-fire opportunities following the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. Moving forward, efforts continue to bring stability and aid relief to the conflict-affected region.
