Heavy rains wreaked havoc in Bengaluru, prompting the Karnataka government to declare a public holiday for schools and anganwadi centres. Private companies were advised to allow employees to work from home as the India Meteorological Department issued a ‘yellow’ alert for the city. The alert was specifically for those working in IT, BT, and private companies.
Tragically, five people lost their lives in rain-related incidents, with widespread flooding reported in residential areas. Rescue operations were carried out by NDRF and SDRF teams, evacuating people from flooded areas using coracles.
The city faced severe traffic jams on major roads, and BBMP officials worked tirelessly to assist affected residents. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar emphasized the need for relief efforts and highlighted the challenges faced by various zones in the city.
Meanwhile, opposition parties criticized the Congress government for the situation, attributing the chaos to alleged administrative shortcomings. As Bengaluru navigated through the deluge, concerns over potholes and infrastructure management were raised by the opposition.
As the city copes with the aftermath of heavy rains, collaborative efforts between authorities and residents remain crucial for recovery and future preparedness.
