Israeli Soldiers Refuse to Serve Until Prisoner Exchange Deal Reached
Fifteen more Israeli soldiers have refused to serve in the army until a prisoner exchange deal is reached with Palestinians, bringing the total to 138 soldiers according to Israeli media. The soldiers signed a letter declaring their refusal to serve without a deal, which was sent to top Israeli officials.
The soldiers stated in the letter, “The war in Gaza sentences our brothers and sisters and the hostages to death.” Israel estimates that some 101 captives are still held by Hamas in Gaza, leading to failed mediation efforts for a cease-fire and prisoner swap agreement.
The ongoing Israeli offensive on Gaza has resulted in thousands of casualties and displacement, with severe shortages of essential resources due to the blockade. Israel is facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in Gaza.
