Zelensky discusses Ukraine’s NATO invitation and positions of Alliance countries

In a recent statement, President Zelensky expressed confidence in France’s support and emphasized the crucial role the United States plays in deciding Ukraine’s potential NATO membership. He hopes for a more positive response post-US elections, with attention currently focused on them. Zelensky also addressed Germany’s position on Ukraine’s NATO invitation, acknowledging the need for extensive efforts with the German side, as US influence will be significant in this matter.

The invitation for Ukraine to join NATO is a key part of Zelensky’s victory plan presented to European leaders. NATO Secretary-General, Mark Rutte, mentioned that Ukraine could become the 33rd or 34th member in the future. However, there hasn’t been an official response from NATO yet. The US Ambassador to NATO stated that Ukraine is not set to join in the immediate future. Despite previous objections, recent reports suggest a shift in the US stance on Ukraine’s NATO membership, possibly influencing Germany’s position. Parliament Assembly President Jerry Connolly noted that Ukraine’s membership hinges on regaining control over its territories.
