Warrap State announces measles outbreak in Tonj East County

The health authorities in Warrap State have declared a measles outbreak in Tonj East County following the confirmation of 88 cases, with five positive samples sent to Juba for testing. The state health minister, Solomon Bol Mabior, stated that vaccination efforts are already underway, and partners have been notified to assist in controlling the situation. The ministry has dispatched a team to gather more information and has requested intervention from the national health ministry.

State Information Minister, William Wol Mayom, also confirmed the outbreak and announced plans for measles vaccination campaigns across the county. Measles is a highly contagious viral disease with symptoms including fever, cough, and red spots on the skin. Despite the availability of a vaccine, it remains a significant cause of death among young children worldwide, as stated by the World Health Organisation.

It is crucial to isolate infected individuals to prevent further spread of the disease. The health authorities are urging the public to cooperate in efforts to control the outbreak and protect the community from the harmful effects of measles.
