A military base housing US forces in eastern Syria was hit by a barrage of rockets, Lebanon’s al-Mayadeen television reported on Tuesday.

Four out of six rockets successfully hit their targets at the Conoco gas field base in Deir Ezzor, accompanied by loud explosions inside the base. The radar station at the Conoco gas field was specifically targeted.

Following the attack, US forces launched strikes against seven villages controlled by the Syrian government east of the Euphrates River.

Amid increasing anti-US sentiments in the region, Iraqi resistance forces have been targeting US military facilities in Iraq and Syria.

The US maintains a military presence in both countries under the guise of fighting terrorism, despite the defeat of Daesh in late 2017.

Sunday’s attack came after a US airborne assault in Syria’s Raqqah Province, resulting in casualties among Syrian civilians.

Damascus has repeatedly urged the UN to stop US airstrikes and military presence in Syria.
