Taoiseach Simon Harris hints at upcoming general election

The Taoiseach, Simon Harris, has indicated that the general election in Ireland will take place “within the next number of short weeks”. While he did not reveal the exact date, he assured the public that they will be given at least three weeks’ notice before the election.

Harris mentioned that the election will not occur until the Finance Bill is finalized, with the committee stage set to begin on 5th November. He expressed confidence in his knowledge of the election date, confirming that it will be held on a Friday.

Furthermore, the leaders of the government parties agreed that the general election will happen in 2024. Harris emphasized the importance of consultation regarding the election date and stated that there will be no surprises.

Despite concerns about 18 Fine Gael TDs not running for reelection, Harris praised the strength of the candidates in every constituency. He acknowledged the intensity of modern politics but highlighted the connection these candidates have within their communities.
