The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced plans to launch a nationwide movement against the 26th Constitutional Amendment, vowing to do so without any fear of consequences. The party leaders, including Secretary General Salman Akram Raja and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, have called on the nation to join in the protest against the threat to judiciary independence posed by the amendment.
Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, Salman Akram Raja emphasized the need for a mass protest movement by every Pakistani, condemning the changes brought to the judiciary by the amendment. He warned that the judges in the constitutional bench would be controlled by oppressors, rendering it a direct attack on the Constitution.
KP Chief Minister Gandapur labeled the movement as a “do or die” situation, urging people to stand up against the amendment. He criticized the government’s lack of public mandate and vowed to revoke the amendment once PTI comes into power.
The PTI leaders also expressed disappointment over party members who supported the amendment, promising strict action against them. The PTI’s stance indicates a fierce determination to safeguard the judiciary’s independence and uphold democratic values.
