Prop 1 on the Ballot: New York’s Push for the Equal Rights Amendment
With less than two weeks until Election Day, New York faces the fear of a national abortion ban following the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022. “Proposal 1” on the ballot seeks to amend the state Constitution with the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), expanding protections against discrimination based on gender identity, disability, age, and sex. This amendment would also explicitly prohibit reproductive discrimination and codify abortion access in the state, setting a precedent for other states to follow.
