The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and Resolve to Save Lives (RTSL) have commended the Nasarawa State Government for embracing the public health legal assessment system tool. This recognition came during a four-day workshop in Nasarawa aimed at strengthening the state’s public health legal framework to respond effectively to public health emergencies.
Amira Abubakar, Assistant Legal Adviser at NCDC, highlighted the collaborative effort between key government stakeholders, legal experts, and public health professionals to assess the state’s existing public health laws. The workshop was part of the Public Health Legal Reform Project and led to the development and evaluation of Nasarawa’s public health laws.
Mr. Emem Udoh, Senior Legal Advisor at RTSL, expressed pride in the partnership with Nasarawa State and the positive impact of the legal reforms on health security. The workshop marked Nasarawa State as a pioneer in utilizing innovative tools to strengthen public health laws and improve emergency response.
Prof. Abdulkarim Kana, Commissioner for Justice, Nasarawa State, reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing public health security through a strengthened legal framework. The adoption of the public health legal assessment system tool signals Nasarawa’s dedication to prioritizing health and improving overall well-being.
