A part-time lecturer from Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education in Lagos, Kolawole Muyiwa, faced trial at the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court for the alleged rape of a student. The Lagos State Government arraigned Muyiwa on February 6, 2023, to which he pleaded not guilty. The prosecution counsel presented a count of rape against him, stating that the incident happened on October 11, 2021, at the college, violating the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The victim, an 18-year-old student, reportedly agreed to help Muyiwa with scoring in an office when the alleged assault occurred. Muyiwa claimed in court that he only asked for a non-sexual relationship with the student, who he referred to as his girlfriend. He emphasized his intention to provide academic support. The case was adjourned to further proceedings on January 13, 2025, by Justice Oshodi.
The trial revealed conflicting accounts between the lecturer and the student, raising questions about consent and academic boundaries.
