Poland’s Annual Border Security Cost of PLN 2.5 Billion Amid Hybrid Warfare and Migrant Exploitation
In the face of hybrid warfare and migrant exploitation orchestrated by Belarus and Russia, Poland is spending a hefty sum of 2.5 billion złotys annually to secure its border with Belarus. This financial commitment involves a rotation of around 8,000 soldiers and police officers to combat the ongoing challenges.
Factors Driving Expenses
The expenses encompass the construction of a border wall, constant patrols by security forces, procurement of equipment, and upkeep of migrant detention centers. These elements collectively contribute to the significant cost of safeguarding the Polish-Belarusian border, as Prime Minister Donald Tusk revealed to EU leaders that the overall expenditure amounts to approximately 600 million euros yearly.
Government’s Acknowledgment
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration, Czesław Mroczek, affirmed these figures, underscoring the escalating financial burden of maintaining security along the eastern border. The ongoing situation continues to strain Poland’s resources as efforts to combat threats persist.
