Hezbollah abuses Lebanon’s self-defense pretext – Ya Libnan

The Ongoing War in Lebanon: Gebran Bassil’s Perspective

In a recent statement, MP Gebran Bassil, head of the Free Patriotic Movement, expressed his disagreement with Hezbollah’s actions in the ongoing war. Bassil emphasized that Hezbollah’s attack on Israel to support Gaza has only further exposed Lebanon to potential Israeli aggression. He criticized Hezbollah for hijacking Lebanon’s pretext of self-defense and emphasized the importance of administrative decentralization to prevent internal strife.

Bassil also highlighted his concerns about Iran using Hezbollah and Lebanese fighters as proxies in its conflict with Israel, stressing the need for direct engagement between the two countries. He pointed out the strategic mistake made by Hezbollah in prioritizing the unity of the Shiite house over Lebanon’s interests.

As a key political figure in Lebanon, Bassil emphasized the importance of unity among Lebanese components while maintaining independence from specific factions. His refusal to support certain political projects, including the presidential ambitions of the army commander, reflects his commitment to Lebanon’s stability amidst ongoing challenges.
