Health workers at Wau Teaching Hospital lament substandard working conditions.

Health workers at Wau’s main referral hospital in Western Bahr el Ghazal State are facing numerous challenges, including a lack of drugs, no electricity at night, and insufficient transport. The poor working conditions have been highlighted by the staff, with midwife Asunta Ballash Martin noting the struggle to deliver babies without proper lighting. Charles Udo also mentioned the lack of transport for workers, putting additional strain on the already overburdened staff. Additionally, the issue of unpaid salaries has left many employees struggling to make ends meet.

Despite the difficulties, dedicated workers like Natelina Mario continue to provide care, even without receiving their wages. The neglect of the hospital staff’s welfare has led to frustration and hardship among employees who are trying to support their families and educate their children. Unfortunately, the Director General of the hospital has declined to address the poor working conditions, leaving the staff feeling unsupported and undervalued.
