Government stops power subsidy for select consumers

Attention all consumers: Electricity subsidies have been officially removed by the federal government for those using up to 200 units per month! Starting from October, charges will range from Rs9 to Rs29 per unit with no more relief in sight.

Households using up to 50 units will now be charged Rs9.39 per unit, while those consuming between 51 and 100 units will face a rate of Rs13.64 per unit. The most significant impact will be felt by consumers using between 101 and 200 units, as they will now pay Rs29.21 per unit.

But wait, there’s more! The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has introduced a revised surcharge policy for late bill payments. A 5 percent surcharge applies if payments are made within three days after the due date, increasing to 10 percent for any payments made beyond that. Fortunately, no surcharge will be applied if payments are made within a three-day grace period following the due date.
