Far-right politician vows to bar PA from high court

The Knesset’s Constitution, Law, and Justice Committee are set to approve a bill proposed by chairman Simcha Rothman that would strip the Palestinian Authority of its right to appeal to the Israeli Supreme Court. Under this proposed legislation, the PA would be barred from filing lawsuits in Israeli courts as well.

Rothman’s explanation for the bill cites a need to correct a distortion where elements hostile to Israel, including those involved in terrorism, can petition against Israeli government policies in the Supreme Court. He argues that the PA, which pays stipends to terrorists and their families, should not have access to Israeli courts.

In addition, Rothman is pushing for the prosecution of Nukhba members involved in Hamas atrocities, despite government delays for hostage negotiations. He also aims to establish a special court to address exceptional crimes like genocide, such as the October massacre.

Rothman’s efforts reflect a broader agenda to restructure Israel’s judicial system and reduce the court’s authority, a move that triggered protests leading up to the October tragedy.
