Returnees in Republika Srpska are facing a staggering issue of having their private property confiscated by the Office for Geodetic and Property Legal Affairs of Republika Srpska, without any prior notification. Thousands of acres of land have been taken over, leaving the rightful owners stripped of their human rights and property in a brutal manner.
In a shocking turn of events, citizens like Selim Mustafić have been notified that their homes and lands now belong to Republika Srpska. Mustafić, who has fought for his land since the 1980s, was handed a decision stating that his property will be used for hunting grounds, leaving him devastated.
Besim Mustafić, another victim, demands legal assistance from institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina to reclaim the 11.5 acres of land his family owned for generations. The deliberate confiscation of property is further highlighted by Alija Hasanović’s case, who has been battling for his rights for three years without much progress.
These returnees believe that Republika Srpska is seizing their property to strengthen its ownership and possibly pave the way for independence. The silence and inaction of Bosnian institutions and the International Community in the face of such blatant human rights violations and property seizures are a cause for concern.
