Cargo plane downed in Sudan; Russians might be onboard

Russian nationals may be involved in the recent downing of a cargo plane in Sudan’s Darfur region, as claimed by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The aircraft, connected to a UAE-based company, had documents, including a Russian passport, recovered at the crash site. This connection raises concerns about Russian mercenaries’ involvement in Sudan’s conflict. Reports suggest that Ukrainian special forces may have also participated in operations in Sudan, aiming to counter Russia’s influence abroad. General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan of Sudan sought Ukraine’s assistance in 2023, leading to a positive response due to previous weapon supplies to Kyiv. Additionally, claims surfaced linking Ukrainian drones to Tuareg fighters in Mali, reported by French outlet Le Monde. The incident is currently being investigated by Russia’s Embassy in Khartoum. This complex web of international involvement underscores the intricate dynamics at play in the region’s conflicts.
