Brian Stanley’s wife appointed to new EU position

Caroline Dwane-Stanley, wife of former Sinn Féin TD Brian Stanley, has been appointed to the EU Committee of the Regions, representing Ireland for the next five years. This comes after Brian Stanley’s recent departure from Sinn Féin due to issues with the party’s complaints process.

Caroline is now Sinn Féin’s sole representative on Laois County Council, following another councillor’s resignation in August. The Committee of the Regions serves as a consultative body for local and regional governments within the EU, with each country having designated members based on election results, gender, and regional balance.

Other nominations from Ireland include Michael Cahill for Fianna Fáil and Emma Blain for Fine Gael. This appointment highlights Caroline Dwane-Stanley’s growing influence in EU affairs and solidifies her position as a key figure in Irish politics.
