In a recent turn of events, the Blue House issued a statement expressing deep regret over the National Assembly’s decision to issue a concurrent summons for Kim Geon-hee, the wife of a presidential aide, in connection with a serious criminal charge. The Blue House spokesperson, Jung Hye-jeon, held a briefing where she criticized the move as an attempt to disgrace the president’s wife and turn the parliamentary audit into a mudslinging match. Jung also highlighted selective witness selection by the ruling party, excluding witnesses unfavorable to them in favor of more than 100 witnesses related to Mrs. Kim.

The previous day, the parliamentary judiciary committee selected Kim Geon-hee as a witness in the audit regarding allegations of share price manipulation at Deutsche Motors. However, when Kim did not appear, attempts to deliver the summons were thwarted by police at the presidential residence.

This development sheds light on the contentious political landscape in the country, with the opposition accusing the ruling party of undemocratic practices. The incident reflects the ongoing power struggles within the National Assembly and the relentless pursuit of political advantage.
