In a recent parliamentary audit, lawmakers criticized Lee Kee-heung, chairman of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, for issues such as monopolistic sponsorship deals, favoritism towards specific companies, and poor management of member sports.
During the audit, members of the National Assembly’s Culture, Sports, and Tourism Committee focused on the KSC and other public institutions, questioning the chairman’s actions. For example, MP Jung Yun-wook of the opposition party raised concerns about the KSC allegedly providing exclusive rights to sponsors and receiving false answers from Lee during previous inquiries.
Additionally, MP Jo Gye-won from the ruling party pointed out the KSC’s failure to comply with a court order regarding the Tennis Association and accused Lee of unnecessarily spending millions in legal battles. MP Kang Yoo-jung also highlighted suspicions of favoritism towards a service provider at the Korea House during the Paris Olympics.
These criticisms have put Lee Kee-heung’s political activities under scrutiny, with MP Shin Dong-wook questioning his involvement in politics and demanding a reevaluation of his priorities.
Overall, the audit revealed significant concerns about Lee’s leadership and decision-making at the KSC, prompting calls for greater transparency and accountability in the sports organization.
