The Israeli regime’s deliberate attacks on UN peacekeeping forces in southern Lebanon have led to several injuries, sparking global condemnation. UNIFIL spokesperson Andrea Tennetti stressed the right of self-defense for the peacekeeping forces against continued aggression from Israel, emphasizing that the attacks violate Security Council Resolution 1701.
Meanwhile, UN’s Tor Wennesland expressed concern over the escalating crisis in Gaza, highlighting the civilian casualties resulting from Israeli air strikes. The UN urgently calls for an end to the violence and the protection of civilians in both Gaza and Lebanon.
James Elder of UNICEF described the dire situation of children in Gaza, lamenting the loss of innocent lives and calling the region a “graveyard of thousands of innocent children.” Since October 7, 2023, Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip have led to over 43,000 fatalities and more than 99,000 injuries.
It is essential to halt the violence, protect civilians, and uphold international peace agreements to prevent further escalation of the conflict in the region.
