A group of Ukraine war veterans joined protesters in Western Siberia’s Tyumen region over the weekend, accusing local officials of unlawfully seizing their homes amid a road construction dispute. Around 50 protesters, including five men in military uniforms, gathered in Tyumen to protest what they claim is a violation of their constitutional rights.
According to Nashgorod.ru, the local government filed a lawsuit against a businessman who donated nearly two dozen homes in Perevalovo village to war veterans. The homes were built despite approved plans for a road in the same spot. Authorities stated they do not plan to seize the homes, but the veterans are adamant about challenging the road construction plans.
The protest organizers claim that around 500 people signed a petition against the current road construction plans. The veterans expressed distrust in the officials and said they would continue to protest until the plans are altered. Federal investigators have opened a criminal probe into fraud against the businessman who donated the properties, identified as Stanislav Borisov.
