Spain’s Agriculture Minister supports boosting ties with Morocco post-ECJ ruling

Spain’s Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, Luis Planas, has expressed the importance of strengthening strategic relations with Morocco following the European Court of Justice’s decision to nullify agriculture and fisheries agreements with the North African nation.

Despite the ruling, Minister Planas stressed that the collaboration between Morocco and Spain goes beyond what the court has decided. He emphasized the political interest in deepening ties with Morocco during a meeting of EU agriculture and fisheries ministers in Luxembourg.

Planas also mentioned his upcoming trip to Rabat to attend a ministerial meeting, where discussions with Moroccan officials are expected to take place. This commitment to engagement comes after Spain’s Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares reiterated the country’s respect for the ECJ’s judgment while affirming the desire to maintain a strategic partnership with Morocco.

Spain remains dedicated to working with the EU and Morocco to uphold and enhance this valuable relationship for the mutual benefit of both nations.
