Iran and US exchange information through Switzerland – official.

Iran and the US are currently communicating through the Swiss Embassy in Tehran, according to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaee. Despite the pause in mascot process discussions due to regional tensions, information exchange between the two countries continues under special circumstances. Iran’s efforts to improve relations with EU member states have been met with backlash, including fresh sanctions imposed by the European Union.

Recent tensions in the Middle East, particularly between Iran and Israel, have prompted Iranian MPs to request a review of the country’s defense doctrine regarding nuclear weapons production. The 2016 Comprehensive Joint Plan of Action between Iran and the P5+1 group was abandoned by the US in 2018, leading Iran to take strategic steps in the nuclear sector.

Additionally, the International Atomic Energy Agency’s monitoring capabilities were reduced due to Iran’s suspension of additional steps and the Additional Protocol as per the nuclear agreement. The Council of Europe also imposed restrictive measures on individuals and organizations linked to Iran’s actions impacting peace and security in the Middle East and Red Sea region.
