India’s High Commissioner to Canada, Sanjay Kumar Verma, denies involvement in the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, citing lack of evidence and political motives

India’s High Commissioner to Canada, Sanjay Kumar Verma, has vehemently denied any involvement in the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia, dismissing Canada’s allegations as politically motivated.

Verma, in an exclusive interview with CTV, stated that there is no evidence linking India to Nijjar’s murder, refuting the claim of political motives behind the accusations.

Verma clarified that the Indian government has never targeted individuals with the intent to cause their deaths, condemning Canada’s assertions as politically driven.

India has criticized Canada for being lenient towards Khalistan movement supporters in the country and promoting anti-India activities, escalating tensions between the two nations.

India-Canada Row

The diplomatic row intensified after Canada accused Indian diplomats of involvement in criminal activities, prompting reciprocal expulsions of diplomats from both countries.

While Canada expelled six Indian diplomats, India reciprocated by expelling an equal number of Canadian diplomats, reflecting the strained relations between the two nations.

‘Not a shred of evidence’

Verma expressed disappointment at Canada’s failure to provide substantial evidence regarding the allegations, emphasizing that India has repeatedly requested proof of the claims.

The Indian diplomat refuted the notion that India was hiding any information and attributed the lack of cooperation to technical issues such as visa problems.

‘No action’

India criticized Canada for not taking action on security concerns raised by sharing information related to criminal gangs, highlighting the political motives behind the ongoing disputes between the two countries.

The diplomatic tensions between India and Canada have been fueled by baseless allegations made by the Canadian government, with India stressing the absence of concrete evidence to support the claims against it.
