DHQ refutes reports of appointing acting COAS

The Defence Headquarters has denied appointing a senior officer as the acting Chief of Army Staff, clarifying that Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja is on a well-deserved leave and not replaced. Recent reports fueled speculation about his health and even death, all of which were dismissed by the Army Headquarters.

In a statement, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau emphasized that there is no provision for an acting COAS in the Armed Forces of Nigeria. Major General Abdulsalam Ibrahim has been providing routine briefs to the COAS during his absence.

Gusau warned against spreading false rumors and confirmed that the COAS is in good health, soon to resume his duties after completing his leave. He also addressed the viral video calling for the military to intervene in the government, stating that such actions are considered treason and that the military remains loyal to the current administration.

The AFN is committed to upholding democracy and safeguarding the nation’s integrity under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.

Overall, the military is focused on fulfilling its responsibilities and taking necessary action against any unconstitutional advocacy.
